Thursday, October 1

rrrrrabbit!!!RABBITTTTTTT!!

this is it.
today is the day.
the first one,
the big deal big business that brings all the boys to the yard.
october the first.
everybody's favorite month,
with all the correlative activated hottness that comes along with it.
and it starts right now.
expert.
and what do we do when we flip open our eyes,
and flip over the calendar,
and flip the F* out because it's the first big day of the dopeness
that is new englandy fall fair-flavored freshness in full effect?
we inhale all the autumnal awesomeness,
and use it to power out the repetitive percussive magic words
from the pursed pucker of our morning-breath-blasted lips.
word.
or words.
or,
the same word, twice, as an echoing catcall catchall to fortune's finest favoritism.
yup.
you all already know i said it.
mhmm, because i doo-doo that superstitious sh!t.
but, did you?
i hope so.
rules is rules,
and the premier of that new-new means we shout it out loud-
rabbit! rabbit!!
that's right, neighbors-
it's documented; i said it, i meant it, and we'll see what happens now.
*
but,
before we watch the world unfold into untold myriad new directions,
with all new directives,
we still have to talk about september's end.
yup.
what goes great with flooding?
soup, obvi.
we need MORE water when there's already an overabundance...
too much is the right amount, y'know?
ha.
soup for lunch,
and soupy saucy simmering exxxtra-special somethin'-somethin' for supper.
friends,
when it's gross out,
and there's hard feelings hanging around indoors,
we gotta squash that sh!t in a hurry.
too bad the squash i'm referring to was slow roasted, though!
zing!!
duders,
check the curry-in-a-hurry-but-slow-mo'-tho-type teleport:
BOOMFIRE!!!!
that bowl right there is the F*ing TRUTH, kids.
real talk.
there's more elite expertism in one scoople of those jauns than in everything
that all y'all ate yesterday, combined.
i mean it.
slow roasted buttery-pitter-patted butternut squash, carrots, and leeks,
baked forever and ever, until steamed softness was achieved at omega level.
that's expert.
broilery heirloom color-exxxplosion coconut-oil-cured fingerling potato chunks.
super soft on the inside, but with the crispy skin that smart people prefer.
that's expert.
red onions, garlic, celery, garlic, scallion bulbs, garlic, red and green chilis,
red, yellow, and orange autumn-appropriate fall-foliage-flair-styled bell peppers,
sauteed to caramel, softened to the tooth,
and added in to a hot pot of thai broth and coconut milk,
but only after toasting all the appropriate spices that's activate a battleragin'
batch of red curry.
do you know what that is?
correct:
that's expert.
however,
i ca sense that your wondering just how did i take it up to eleven,
before i even finished adding in all the exxxtra everything else?
that's easy. i activated the seasonal sorcery, and the doodietwinkles,
with a dash and a half of toasty cinnamon sexxxiness.
mmmhmmmm.
root veggies, and squash and cinnamon, on a wet and bedraggled lugubrious evening?
THAT'S expert.
and when there are pan-seared turbo-crisp cashew sprankles tossed in that broth?
and scallion sprankles for even MORE tastiness?
and a generous cilantro sprankle garnish,
to give it the final push into stratospheric superior succulence and savoir faire?
that's expert expert expert,
plus,
it brings a brutally abundant joie de vivre to the table with it.
i don't really know if the jasmine rice was necessary,
but i DO know that it really added a whole other 'nother dimension to the dish.
soaking up all that subtly cinnamony, delectably autumnal,
perfectly piquant, coconutty soup.
damn.
sometimes,
it just feels so flippin' good to get busy in test kitchen laboratory of
the Folk Life & Liberty Fortress.
yes, it does.
*
today is the day.
one more chance to dominate every aspect of wakefulness and mindfulness.
there's always something to do,
and always MORE where that came from.
it's ALL really happening,
and that's the whole point;
never quiet, never soft.....
