swirls!

pastry dough seems to be something i ALWAYS make too much of.
uh-huh.
now,
if i were a lesser man,
i might adjust my recipe to account for the consistent overage,
but,
since i'm a warrior poet of vegan woodsly goodsly shark-gluttony,
my infinite battle-beastliness forbids me from making any less of anything-
you know the mantra: too much is the right amount-
and that just so happens to work out great for making more treats more often.
mmhmm.
that's a thing.
here's another thing:

spirals of buttery, crispy, flakin' fresh-to-deathness!!!
i whipped 'em up exxxtra-quick, with minimal time to prep,
and an already very hot oven.
15 minutes of furnace-blasting 400F convection,
and these affectionate confections had the whole house smelling like heaven.
or,
maybe a woodland witch's house-
those are made out of candy, or so i hear.....?
so, what's in these crawnchy indulgences of whirly indulgence?
for starters, there's the leftover pastry dough,
verrrrry relaxed in the fridge-
rolled out, chilled out, and ready for the new hottness;
which, in this case took the form of a chunky filling-
coconut, cinnamon, dark brown sugar,
a pinch of ginger, a pinch of nutmeg, a bunch of butterish, and vanilla.
yup.
that's it.
all so easy, but oh so dope.
and that's the way i like it, too, neighbors.
not everything that looks amazing is hard,
and not all ugly things were lazily created.
it's called showmanship,
and it's an important part of the presentation.
at the end of a minimal umber if minutes,
we were munchin' up on tasty pastry cookies,
and honestly, they're very very good,
but drastically more so than the time invested.
y'know what we call that around here?
yes.
that's called...............expert.
***********
today,
it's breakfast with the family,
and last night,
it was dinner with extended family.
all this june togetherness has got me feeling motivated, inspired, invigorated,
and verbose-
well,
that last one is truly unavoidable.
the thing of it all is-
i'm psyched, duders.
great food, true friends, my righteous ampy-d,
my personable and competent children,
my stalwart and socially awkward bull terrier.
and this Folk Life & Liberty Fortress are all working together
to take this summer to eleven.
i am grateful for the time i have been given,
and i promise not to squander a single second of it.
it's ALL really happening,
and there's no better way to span the circles echoing outward from the center;
never quiet, never soft.....
